The warm evening air was refreshing. I looked up to the cloudless sky, and was met by the gaze of stars twinkling from the heavens. I could hear the peaceful lull of the waves crashing on the distant beach. I looked over my shoulder at the house getting smaller, alive with lights and music, and let out a deep sigh. I mindlessly continued to walk towards the beach as if enchanted by the sea. I stood and looked at the white sand glittering in the moonlight. Quickly I kicked off my dress shoes, and put my socks inside them. I took a step out, and felt my feet sink into the cool sand. I immediately started wiggling my toes around to feel the sand cover my feet. A smile beamed across my face from the calming sensation. I walked a little closer to the water and spent some time watching the waves rise and fall. Just absorbing the tranquil sounds of the sea. I took a few steps forward onto the wet sand and enjoyed the crunching sound it made as I did. I saw the next wave coming and braced myself. The wave crashed at my ankles sending an icy spray up my body causing me to shiver. Looking out into the vast sea everything else seemed so small, so insignificant. I took a deep breath as the cool sea breeze was rolling in. That felt like the first real breath I had taken in a while. The fresh air in my lungs made me feel lighter, cleaner. It felt like years were taken off my shoulders. At this moment I was more alive than ever. I walked back up to where the waves met the sand. Looking down, my dress pants were already caked with sand, so taking a seat wouldn't be an issue. I relaxed and stretched out my legs in front of me. I shifted my weight back and forth to dig myself a little deeper into the cool sand. I looked out into the distance again and watched the moonlight dance off the waves. I was so entranced by the sight in front of me that I didn't notice the person calling my name as they approached.

“I had to come all the way here just to get you!”  an annoyed voice called out, shaking me out of my trance.

“What are you even-”

He stopped and looked out onto the sea, and then down to me soaked from the water and covered in sand. I didn't say anything but just gave him an empty stare. He shook his head slowly and chuckled to himself. He didn't say anything else but took off his shoes, and then sat next to me.
